Statistical Assistance

Three faculty members at RFU with advanced statistical expertise and may be contacted directly.

  • Steven A. Miller, PhD, PStat(R), CStat is a professor in the psychology department and an Accredited Professional Statistician through the American Statistical Association.   He is also a fellow of the Royal Statistical Society where he is a Chartered Statistician.  Dr. Miller is familiar with numerous statistical packages (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS, etc.).  He is adept at learning new programs and has also helped in the development of statistical software.   He has consulted with individuals from numerous fields and has helped with both grant planning and analysis.  He is also open to being included on grants submissions as well as collaborating on publications.  He has reserved statistical consulting hours (sometimes remote via Zoom and sometimes on campus) on Tuesdays from 1 - 5 PM and may also be  available for appointments.   Dr. Miller may be contacted at steven.miller@rosalindfranklin.edu.
  • Tamzin J. Batteson, BSc (Honors), ARM is the research specialist for the Baldwin Institute. Ms. Batteson has been employed as a researcher in the UK, Ireland and the USA for almost two decades. She has worked as a researcher for St Ann’s Hospital – Whittington NHS Trust in which she collaborated with different government agencies assessing dual diagnosis heavy end drug use, homelessness and childhood self-harm. She then took on a post-Doc position in the Education Department of the University of Limerick in which she was part of a 700,000 Euro grant focused on implementing development education into teacher training. She also applied for and obtained grants in her tenure there. She has also taught both undergraduate and graduate level research methods and statistics classes in all three countries. Ms. Batteson has worked at RFUMS for nine years and assisted both students and faculty in research and publication. She has obtained $350,000 in grant monies and works collaboratively with three other Universities in the USA on research projects. She has expertise in all analysis in SPSS, LISREL and all Qualitative analysis. Ms. Batteson has virtual open office hours on both Mondays and Fridays from 12 – 2 and is also available for appointments. Ms. Batteson may be contacted at tamzin.batteson@rosalindfranklin.edu.
  • Namhee Kim, PhD is a Senior Biostatistician and Data Resource Core Lead of the Michael Reese Foundation Center for Health Equity Research. Dr. Namhee Kim brings extensive expertise in a diverse array of statistical and quantitative methods, including longitudinal data analysis, mixed effects model, small area estimation, meta-analysis, brain MRI data, bio-surveillance, and non-linear regression. While actively participating as a statistical collaborator in clinical and biomedical projects, she contributed to studies on traumatic brain injury, aging, and dementia. Dr. Namhee Kim holds a patent for assessing burden of traumatic brain injury with individual patients, and specializes in developing methods and algorithms to address the analytical demands in clinical studies. She thrives on addressing complex issues and working with intricate data. She is available to provide assistance with identifying and accessing existing data for secondary data analyses and guidance on your planned data analysis, and/or serve as a collaborator on grant submission and manuscripts.

    Dr. Namhee Kim will be available for weekly statistical consulting for those planning or already engaged in health equity-related research as well as other research topics. Additionally, the Statistical Techniques and Training Society (STATS) is Rosalind Franklin University's student chapter of the American Statistical Association. Student members are available by appointment to serve as statistical consultants for all members of the RFU community. STATS has received various university-wide awards for the breadth of consulting services provided throughout the RFU community, including the Outstanding New Student Organization Award (2020), the Outstanding Student Organization Award (2021), and the Outstanding Educational Service Award (2021).
