Benefit Highlights for Part Time Staff

Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science offers a comprehensive selection of quality benefits to our eligible part time employees (regularly scheduled between 18.5 and 30 hours/week). The university offers four medical plans, a dental plan, a vision plan, flexible spending accounts, a Health Savings Account (if enrolled in a HDHP) and an extremely attractive retirement plan. Except for the retirement plans, all benefits are effective the first of the month following your date of hire. With the exception of the retirement plans, employees may enroll within thirty days from date of hire or during an Open Enrollment period.

Medical Plans – Blue Cross Blue Shield

  • PPO and High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP with optional Health Savings Account (HSA)
    • Freedom to see any qualified PPO provider you choose (your out of pocket costs are greater when you seek care outside the network).
  • Blue Advantage HMO and HMO Illinois
    • All care must be coordinated by your HMO primary care physician or woman’s primary health care provider.
    • With the exception of emergencies, all care must be provided by your chosen primary care physician.

Dental Plan - Delta Dental

  • Ability to see any qualified dentist you choose.
  • Preventive services are covered at 100% of reasonable and customary charges.

Vision Plan – Superior Vision

  • Benefits through Superior National Network.
  • Low co-pays for exams, materials, and contact lens fittings; additional discounts offered by some in-network providers.

Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts - PayFlex

  • Flexible Spending Accounts allow you to use pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible health care and dependent care expenses.
  • Health Savings Account (if enrolled in our HDHP) allows you to use and save pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible health care expenses for now or in the future.

Retirement Plans - TIAA

  • Contributions to our Defined Contribution (DC) and Money Purchase Plan (MPP) is mandatory and is effective two years after the date of hire although prior employment during the 24 consecutive month period immediately preceding your hire date with education or non-profit research organization may be counted toward meeting eligibility requirement. Once eligible, participation in these plans is mandatory as a condition of employment. The employee makes a mandatory 5% contribution to the DC plan and the university makes a 8% contribution to the MPP.
  • Employees may make unmatched contributions to voluntary supplemental pre-tax and post-tax retirement plans.

Paid Holidays and Sick Days

  • Employees are eligible to receive 10 paid holidays (if regularly scheduled to work on a University holiday) and two pro-rated Floating Holidays per year.
  • Sick time accrues up to a maximum of 15 days.

Vacation

  • Employees classified as Staff are entitled to pro-rated vacation according to the following:
    • 0 - 8 years - Maximum accrual of 10 pro-rated working days
    • 9 plus years - Maximum accrual of 15 pro-rated working days

Personal Leave

  • Eligible employees may receive up to 40 hours Personal Leave during a 12-month period depending on their hours worked.
