Dr. Tweedy has written extensively about the intersection of race and medicine, both in academic journals and popular print publications. His 2015 book, Black Man in a White Coat: A Doctor's Reflections on Race and Medicine, made the New York Times bestseller list and was selected by TIME Magazine as a top non-fiction book that year.

Virtual Concert series with Daniel Bernard Roumain
April 30, May 7, and May 14, 2020
Dr. Mildred M.G. Olivier, assistant dean for diversity and learning environment, hosted a three-part concert series in April and May with accomplished violinist and activist, Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR). DBR is known for his genre-bending performances and as a leader in the arts industry. Learn more about him on his website: DanielRoumain.com.
For the May 14 performance, DBR was joined by one of Chicago Medical School's own faculty members. Dr. Hector Rasgado-Flores is the Director of Diversity, Outreach and Success, a professor of physiology and biophysics, and a conservatory-trained pianist. Among his many accomplishments, he wrote a piano suite about the chemical elements, commissioned by the Colegio Nacional in Mexico, and performed it for his colleagues at Chicago Medical School. Unfortunately, the audio recording of the live performance was corrupted, but you can still listen to Dr. Rasgado Flores's piano suite here.

"Celebrating Excellence, Success, and Diversity in Medicine"
This virtual event, held on Thursday, April 9 via Zoom, was a celebration of the URM members of the Class of 2020. The M4s celebrated their recent matches and looked forward to the start of their residencies.
Two special guest speakers addressed the graduating M4s: Niva Lubin-Johnson, MD, FACP, Immediate Past President of the National Medical Association (NMA), and CMS alumna Monica Branch, MD '17, who is currently a third-year resident in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Schwab Rehabilitation/University of Chicago.
Dr. Lubin-Johnson offered congratulations to the M4s and talked about their responsibility to become advocates in health research, healthcare, and health equity. Dr. Branch presented advice for being successful in residency. Students were able to ask questions after each talk.
"Leading with Authenticity: Do You" - AMA President Visits RFU
February 4-5, 2020
Chicago Medical School kicked off Black History Month with a visit from Patrice A. Harris, MD, MA, the 174th president of the American Medical Association and the first African-American woman to hold that position. During her visit, Dr. Harris met with student organizations, led small-group discussions, met with school and university leadership, and gave a presentation about leading with authenticity and integrity.
Dr. Harris began her visit with a dinner with medical students from CMS and Loyola who are from groups underrepresented in medicine. Invited faculty and other guests from the Chicagoland area also attended the dinner. Dr. Harris spoke about her journey to medicine and the AMA, and students had the opportunity to ask her questions about current healthcare topics and diversity in medicine.
