New Title IX Policy and Resolution Process
Effective August 1, 2024, the Department of Education and Office of Civil Rights has enacted new regulations for the protections and prohibitions laid out in Title IX of the Civil Rights Act. The new Title IX Policy and Resolution Process 2024 includes enhanced protections against sex-based discrimination; specifically harassment in a hostile work or learning environment, the LGBTQIA+ community, protections for pregnant and parenting students and employees and more. Every RFU employee is a mandatory reporter of sex discrimination and required to inform pregnant and parenting students of their rights. In addition, every employee is required to undergo mandatory Title IX training on an annual basis and upon hire. The Title IX office will address every report/notice or knowledge of a potential violation of Title IX Policy, implementing supportive measures for the parties throughout the process. The new Resolution Process allows for more discretion in resolving reports; drawing from the trained professionals in our Title IX Resolution Process Pool and utilizing methods such as Alternative Dispute Resolution, educational mandates, and use of the Bias Response Team. Furthermore, by implementing RFU’s Title IX Policy and Resolution Process 2024, we will create a work and learning environment in which all may succeed in their academic and employment pursuits free of sex discrimination, sex-based harassment and retaliation.
Previous Policy and Procedure
For alleged incidents of sexual harassment that began prior to August 1, 2024, the policy and procedures in place at the time of the alleged incident apply. Applicable versions of those policies and procedures are available from the Director of Title IX Compliance and at these links:

RFU is guided by its core values: collaboration, excellence, innovation, integrity, justice, respect, and scholarship. RFU values and upholds the equal dignity of all members of its community, which is composed of all employees, students, and third parties engaged in that work (including but not limited to patients, volunteers, contractors). Its policies and procedures apply in any venue in which RFU provides educational programs or patient care including RFU clinics. Specifically, these policies and procedures strive to balance the rights of the Parties in the resolution process during what is often a difficult time for all involved.
RFU seeks to comply with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances prohibiting discrimination in post-secondary education institutions. RFU does not discriminate against any employee, applicant for employment, student, or applicant for admission on the basis of actual or perceived sex.
This Policy covers sex discrimination in both employment and access to educational opportunities. Therefore, any member of RFU community whose acts deny, deprive, unreasonably interfere with or limit the education or employment, residential and/or social access, benefits, and/or opportunities of any member of RFU community, guest, or visitor on the basis of that person’s actual or perceived sex, is in violation of this Policy.
RFU will promptly and effectively address any such discrimination of which it has Knowledge/Notice using the resolution process in the Prohibited Sex Discrimination, Sex-Based Harassment, and Retaliation Procedures. Knowledge/Notice includes any communication of information that defines or substantiates conduct covered by or described in this policy.
