School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies

Teaching Scholar

The ability to effectively teach is a recognized essential component of many academic careers in higher education and research. The School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) is committed to providing outstanding mentorship and training opportunities in all areas of graduate and postdoctoral experience, including teaching. Therefore, SGPS in cooperation with Lake Forest College has developed the Teaching Scholar Program. This Program is intended to provide opportunities to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to augment their experience, improve teaching skills, and prepare for academic or other professional careers that include teaching responsibilities.

The Program is intended for advanced graduate students and postdocs who have identified teaching as a critical part of their future career plans. It should be understood that participation in this Program is voluntary and indeed will be selective based on an application to the Program which will be evaluated by both SGPS and Lake Forest College, and requires the recommendation of the trainee's primary mentor. RFUMS Graduate Student participants will be required to register for the SGPS course, Teaching Scholar (GRRD-700).

Please refer to the documents below for additional description of the Program and application information. Please contact the SGPS Dean's Office at x8493 if you have any questions.
