Curriculum Objectives

 

Upon completion of The Chicago Medical School undergraduate program, each student will be able to:

  1. collect data from the following sources: a) patient history including quality of life functions or history from other relevant information sources (e.g. the family) and b) physical examination.
  2. use basic science knowledge to interpret data gathered from the patient interview ad physical examination.
  3. utilize the sources available for securing additional data through laboratory procedures, and be able to interpret such data.
  4. construct a differential diagnosis and a plan for its confirmation or rejection.
  5. treat each patient as an integrated whole rather than as a disease entity (enhance quality of life).
  6. use current literature and other educational resources to understand and resolve dignostic problems.
  7. develop multidimensional treatment plans which include diet (utilization of team approach), place of care, use of medications and therapeutic procedures, assistive orthopedic devices, and which take into account the patient's socioeconomic and psychological status.
  8. learn new concepts in current medical literature.
  9. critically evaluate new concepts and interpret new data.
  10. respect and work with other health professionals and facilitate the development of their skills.
  11. understand the concepts of primary prevention, epidemiology and health care delivery and account for socioeconomic status.
  12. participate effectively in peer review, especially in providing constructive criticism of professional behavior.
  13. choose a career track appropriate to his/her abilities and performance.
  14. understand the basics of comprehensive health care delivery, regardless of long-term specialy choice.
  15. be self-directed in solving problems.
