Q: When I click enter I get a double line spacing. How can I get a single line?

When I click enter I get a double line spacing. How can I get a single line?

A: Place cursor at the end of the line then hold shift and press enter.

Why my page is cut off?

A: 1. The page can get cut off if you are using tables on your page and the size exceeds maximum width which is 550px. If your table has cell spacing pr padding the maximum table width reduces.
2. The image that is on the page exceeds the maximum width of 550px.
3. You are using too many white spaces. If you click on Source, you will see #160; that repeats throughout the code. Some users use it to get single line spacing. Please delete #160; and use shift and enter to get single spacing.

I can't upload file.

A: 1. If you not seeing any options displayed after you've clicked Browse Server and selected File button, please contact Kathy Gorman or call Web Design Department at #3712.
2. If nothing happens after you've clicked on he Browse Server button, please minimize everything and look for that second window, it is probably already opened.

Getting Started

• To become a content management system user please has your department head fill out the online registration form here.
• Log in to the page you are responsible for. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and click the site login link.
• This will take you to the login screen. Enter your username and password and click login.
  You can only login to pages which you have access to.
• Rollover the blue triangle.
• Click Edit Page from dropdown menu.
• Rich Text Editor will not work in Safari browser.
• You will be taken to the Rich Text Editor as shown below.
  

Rich Text Editor Control Overview

Roll over the controls.

• Editing existing items Many elements can be edited by right clicking on them and selecting the option that allows you to edit it.
  
  Links/Anchors, Images, Flash, and Tables.
  All of them pop open a new window with controls for that specific element. Links/Anchors, Images, and Flash all create a primary pop up once they are clicked on. This first window displays the properties for that element. All of these primary pop up windows have a browse server button with creates a secondary pop up that contains files. Clicking on an item in this window will cause it to disappear and send all the relevant information about the item you clicked to the primary pop up window. The tables control only creates 1 window. All table controls are handled in that window. Below you will find step by step instructions on how to work with these controls.
  
  New Lines
  To add a new line instead of starting a new paragraph hold shift and press enter. This will start a new line with no extra space between it and the line above it.
  
  Documents Vs Web Pages
  A web page is built using html, and can contain links, images, scripts, and multimedia embedded within it. Web pages can be viewed with a browser and edited directly with our Content Management system. A document is a non html format often that needs a separate program to open it. Microsoft word, excel, power point, and pdf files are all examples of documents. If you need to edit a document you must update the file in whatever program was used to create it and THEN upload it to the website. For example to update a word document you must find or download the document. Open it in Microsoft word. Update the relevant information, and then upload the updated document to the site.
• Source
  This button will convert your view into the source code view. Pressing it again will return you to the regular rich text editor.
• Preview
  This button will show the preview of the page in a separate browser window.
• Cut
  This button will remove whatever is selected.
• Copy
  This button will copy whatever is selected.
• Paste
  This button will paste what ever was cut or copied.
• Plain Paste
  This button will paste as plain text.
• Paste from Word
  This button will paste information copied from Microsoft word.
• Print
  Use this button to print current page.
• Spell Check
  Use this button to check your spelling.
• Undo/Redo
  These buttons undo or redo commands that have been performed since the editor was opened.
• Find
  This button pops open a window that gives options for finding specific text on the page. It is especially useful for long pages. To use this control you must have pop ups enabled.
• Replace
  This button pops open a window that gives options for replacing specific text on the page. This is useful for replacing instances of a mistake from a page. To use this control you must have pop ups enabled.
• Select All
  This button will select everything on the page.
• Select All
  This button will select everything on the page.
• Remove Format
  This button removes any style information applied using the style dropdown list.
• Bold
  This button will bold the selected text. If clicked with bolded text is selected the text will be un-bolded.
• Italic
  This button will italicize the selected text. If clicked with bolded text is selected the text will be un-italicized.
• Underline
  This button will underline the selected text. If clicked with underlined text selected it will remove the underline.
• Strikethrough
  This button will put a strike through the selected text. If clicked with strikethrough text selected the strikethrough will be removed.
• Subscript
  This button changes the selected text to a subscript. If clicked with subscript text selected it will remove the subscript.
• Superscript
  This button changes the selected text to a superscript. If clicked with superscript text selected it will remove the superscript.
• Numbered List
  This button creates a numbed list, or turns whatever is selected into the first item in a numbered list. Hitting enter at the will create more numbers in the list. If clicked when a numbered list is selected it will remove the list.
• Unordered List
  This button creates a bulleted list, or turns whatever is selected into the first item in a bulleted list. Hitting enter will create more bullet points. If clicked when a bulleted list is selected it will remove the list.
• Indent
  This button will indent the selected block of text.
• Paragraph Style
  These four buttons left, right, center, or justify the text selected when they are pressed.
• Blockquote
  A browser inserts white space before and after a blockquote element. It also insert margins for the blockquote element.
• Link
  This button will open the links pop up window. To use this control you must have pop ups enabled.
• Remove Link
  This button removes an existing link.
• Anchor
  This button opens up the anchor pop up window. Once named, the anchor can be selected from the links pop up window. To use this control you must have pop ups enabled.
• Image
  This button opens up the image pop up window. To use this control you must have pop ups enabled.
• Flash
  This button opens up the flash pop up window. To use this control you must have pop ups enabled.
• Table
  This button opens up the table pop up window. To use this control you must have pop ups enabled.
• Line
  This button inserts a horizontal line.
• Special character
  This button pops open the special characters pop up window. Selecting a character in the pop up window will insert the character on the page.
• Page break
  This button inserts a page break.
• Style
  Style will change over all formatting.
• Format
  Format inserts headings. All of the headings are 25 point and bold except for h4 which is 14 point.
  H1 = Yellow Hex#ffcc00
  H2 = Teal Hex#0099cc
  H3 = Maroon Hex#990033 (our official university color)
  H4 = Maroon Hex#990033
  H5 = Black Hex#000000
  H6 = Olive Green Hex#999900
• Font
  The font dropdown lists web safe fonts. Arial is recommended for all paragraph text.
• Size
  This dropdown changes the size of the selected text.
• Background color
  This button opens up the background color pop up window. Select a background color and that color will be applied to the selected area.
• Text color
  This button opens up the text color pop up window. Select the color and that color will be applied to the selected text.

Add an External Link

1) Click the link button.
2) Type the URL in the url box.
3) Click ok.
Note: Link will not be added until you click the module. However you do not have to update the module every time you add a link. You can add multiple links before updating the module.

Adding a Link to the Page Within Your Portal

1) Click the link button.
2) Click the browse server button.
3) Select the type of link. (Page for web pages within your portal)
4) Select the page from the drop down list.
5) Click "use selected link".
6) Click ok.
Note: Link will not be added until you update the module. However you do not have to update the module every time you add a link. You can add multiple links before updating the module.

Adding a Link to the Existing Document

1) Click the link button.
2) Click the browse server button.
3) Select the type of link. (File for Documents within your portal)
4) Select the appropriate folder where your document is located). From the "File Name:" dropdown menu select the file you want to link to.
5) Click "use selected link".
6) Click ok.
Note: Link will not be added until you update the module. However you do not have to update the module every time you add a link. You can add multiple links before updating the module.

Upload new document and link to it.

1) Click the link button.
2) Click the browse server button.
3) Select file.
4) Select the folder you wish to have the document uploaded to.
5) Click "upload new file".
6) Click the browse button.
7) Click "upload selected file"
8) Click "use selected link"
9) Click ok.

Edit a Picture

1) Right click on the desired picture.
2) Edit the desired settings.
3) Click ok.
Note: The picture will not be updated until you click the module. However you do not have to update the module every time you edit a picture. You can update multiple pictures before updating the module.

Add a new picture.

1) Click the picture button.
2) Click browse server.
3) Select the images folder.
4) Select your department’s folder.
5) Click the browse button in the upper right corner.
6) Select your image.
7) Click ok.
Note: The picture will not be added until you click the module. However you do not have to update the module every time you add a picture. You can add multiple pictures before updating the module. Also do not resize the pictures using the height and width controls. Large pictures still use additional storage and look grainy if shrunk using this method. Resize the pictures in your preferred photo editing software to be the size you wish, then upload them.

Edit a Table

1) Right click on the table you wish to edit.
2) Select the edit cell, row, or table option.
3) Change the desired settings.
4) Click ok

Add a New Table

1) Click the table button.
2) Change the desired settings.
3) Click ok.
Note: Tables can be placed within tables.
