General Information

Scholl College desires to enroll students who present evidence of a strong preparation for the study of podiatric medicine. We seek students who have achieved academic success and have demonstrated personal growth and professional motivation. Candidates who meet our standards should make significant contributions to the academic, clinical, and student programs of the college.

In 2001 Scholl College merged with Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. The campus is readily accessible by commuter train and highways. It is also located close to some of the most attractive residential areas in the Chicago Metropolitan area. Free campus parking is available to students, faculty and staff. There are 240 units of Student Housing on campus, and numerous residential areas are located within a short walking or commuting distance.

**Why should I apply to Scholl College?

Scholl College is renowned for its research program, housed at the Center for Lower Extremity Ambulatory Research, or CLEAR. They have many resources available online for learning about what research projects are on-going. Scholl College's mission is to educate our students by exposing them to all facets of the profession. **What is required to apply?

Scholl College requires that applicants have at least 90 semester hours of undergraduate education to include 12 semester hours of Biology, 8 semester hours of General/Inorganic Chemistry, 8 semester hours of Organic Chemistry, 8 semester hours of Physics, and 6 semester hours of English. While Biology is frequently the most common undergraduate major, we accept students with a wide variety of majors.

**Do I need to send my transcripts to Scholl College?

Not yet. Applicants should send their official transcripts to the AACPM upon submission of their application. Prior to matriculation, admitted students to Scholl College should send a final official transcript with the date and degree conferred directly to the College.

**Can I send in my letters of evaluation before I apply?

Yes! Please send in application materials as soon as possible so that your admissions evaluation is not delayed. Scholl College prefers to have a composite evaluation from the Pre-Professional Advisory Committee at the undergraduate institution. Two letters of evaluation from individual members of the faculty (preferably science) may be substituted for the composite evaluation. An additional third letter from a DPM confirming shadowing experience is required.

**How do I apply to Scholl College?

Scholl College participates in the American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine Application Service (www.aacpm.org). Applications for fall 2012 will start being accepted on August 1, 2011 and Scholl College will accept applications through July 31, 2012. You can submit your electronic application to any of the nine colleges of podiatric medicine via this application service. You will need to submit your official transcripts to the AACPM upon submission of your application. Applicants are responsible for reporting fall grades to the application service to update their application. Transcripts should be sent to:

**What does Scholl College look for in a personal statement?

Writing a personal statement for the podiatric medical school application is no different than writing for any other professional school admissions. You should highlight the characteristics you have that would enable you to be a qualified and caring physician. Add to that the development you've made towards understanding the role of the podiatric physician in modern medicine. You should list any DPMs you have shadowed and what you have learned from those experiences. Address any concerns you may have about your application (perhaps you need to explain to us why grades in a certain semester are lower than average or why there are significant gaps in your educational or work experience). Do the simple things: proof read and spell check. Have a friend read your statement and give you feedback regarding the content!

**Which entrance exam does Scholl College accept?

The MCAT is the only exam accepted by Scholl College. Please note: Scholl College will not offer acceptances to candidates who have pending MCAT scores, have a test date scheduled or have not released their scores. Interviewed applicants will have their file placed on hold until official MCAT scores are received by the AACPM.

**Can I apply or be considered for an interview without an MCAT score?

Yes, you can! However, if you complete the interview process at Scholl College, your file will not be reviewed by the Admissions Committee for final decision until an official MCAT score is received by the AACPM.

**What happens after my application is submitted?

Once your application is complete, the Admissions Committee screens your application and determines if you will be invited for an in-person interview. Scholl College generally conducts interviews on Tuesdays and Thursdays of each month between October and May.

**How long after my interview does it take to hear back from the Admissions Committee with a decision?

Generally you will hear back from Scholl College within 10 business days of your interview.

**How many applications does Scholl College receive?

Typically, we receive between 500 and 600 applications for our 98 seats.

**How many interviews does Scholl College conduct?

Approximately 150-175 candidates are interviewed each year.

**How do I know if I am eligible for a scholarship?

The scholarship committee makes its determination for first year scholarships at the time of admission. Most candidates will be notified of their scholarship at the time they are notified of their admissions decision. Scholl College offers the largest scholarship program of all podiatric medical colleges. Last year we awarded in excess of $600,000.

**May I apply if I am an International Student?

Yes! Scholl College welcomes applicants from all over the world. Scholl College participates in the American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine Application Service (www.aacpm.org).
