Our Master of Science in Nutrition degree program is offered in an online and distance learning delivery format designed for dietitians and other nutrition professionals who: (1) must maintain full-time employment and/or have other personal or professional commitments; (2) cannot or do not wish to relocate to participate in a traditional, campus-based program; (3) have the ability to work independently; and (4) are self-motivated and goal-oriented. Although our program is more convenient, it is not an easy route for earning a graduate degree. Our academic standards are high and the curriculum of our graduate program is challenging.

The Master's degree program in nutrition is a part-time program. The estimated time for completion is 2 years for students taking two courses per quarter and 3 years for students taking one course per quarter. Student must complete all degree requirements within 5 years of the date of enrollment into the program. Students pursuing the thesis option need to allow for at least an additional year to meet thesis requirements.

Student enrolled in the distance learning graduate program in the Department of Nutrition focus on achievement in five competency areas: application of nutrition knowledge, teaching nutrition information, demonstration of the processes of critical inquiry and research, application of technology to professional activities and demonstration of effective professional communication. Self-instructional modules in the use of required computer software and a course covering the use of the Internet and online learning issues round out the curricula for degree program options in Clinical Nutrition and Nutrition Education, which provide our graduates with a competitive edge for positions in administration, clinical dietetics, nutrition education, healthcare professional training programs, the food industry, and research.
